it was sometime in the early morning when she arose to scour the markets. she had already procured the usual combination of recently butchered meat and freshly produced milk contained in glass that would fill her belly for the day. everything was wrapped in cloth once purchased and carefully stowed away within a small and expertly woven basket, its handle presently hanging from the crook of her arm as she maintained an unhurried pace whilst walking through the markets.
the young noble enjoyed shopping when everything had only just opened, the selection of goods offered shortly after sunrise undeniably superb in quality. additionally, the great bazaar was sparsely populated at this hour, the risk of brushing against another remarkably low.
'i wonder if i should try for salmon today,' she thought. 'i've already gotten a cut of beef but i'm craving fish at the moment.'
fish was something she rarely indulged in, the girl only ever bothering when she felt an overwhelming desire for it. the tiny bones that were lodged inside were an inconvenience, but the soft flesh that surrounded it was positively delectable.
'and bread - i've not had bread in a while.'
her gaze slid from a display that consisted of colorful fruits to that of a passing figure - something about their hulking size and coloring having caused the young woman to almost immediately fixate upon them.
'they look... familiar,' she thought, her eyes rounding. 'very familiar.'
brighid sucked in a little breath, her form growing rigid for a moment as she felt a surge of excitement smother her good sense.
"it's - !"
before he had the chance to disappear from vice, she'd rush after him and raised her voice in an attempt at acquiring his attention.
"e-excuse me! excuse me! my lord? a moment - please!"
she very nearly stumbled over herself then, only just catching herself before she toppled over.

right was the start to this morning. The sun was still breaking though the tall marvels this city was known for. The break hands of arcitecture reaching for the sky and the great beyond. And the occasional ray of light which broke through or found a crack in the horizon was blocked again by Ferr's frame. His horns shining light off as if they were magical wands casting a spell. An armored skirt and armbands that fashioned red, white, and yellow trimmings. For the sake of politness and not making citizens uncomfortable, Ferr also wore a tabard with the icon of the district. It was the prime time of day to catch up with several of the rows most known and influential merchants and tenders. The man wore a bright and friendly smile as he strolled through the market place. The way Ferr walked, always down the middle and making his presence known, it was best to do his rounds in the morning before too many people crowded the streets. As the Captain, it was strange when no one saw Ferr carry around any weapons. Not even a baton or shield. Granted the folks who knew him the longest came to understand Ferr disliked the use of weapon ever since his mother passed. Fists were his method of defense now; the proof came in the form of bruises to the knuckles and forearms. Stopping by the bread vendor, Ferr had a conversation with its owner; William. For a time they talked and smiled. Then Ferr walked down to visit Maria who sold scarves and head wraps. They smiled and laughed for several minutes before the man walked away. He kept this up for almost half an hour before he heard someone call out to him. It was not one of the normal voices he heard. Curious and interested, Ferr turned around with a raised brow. Just in time to see the young woman almost take a fall. "Are you ok, miss?" The man closed the gap with his hands out. "You didn't hurt yourself did you?"Her frame was not of the average human. It was obvious she too had outward mutations; magic had given her a unique body. And the clothes she wore were not the kind any lower-class girl would wear. Granted this is the thought Ferr always had ever since he moved and took leadership of the Knights here. Her draconic features were the real stand out features. For a moment the Captian looked around in case she had been running from something. But everything seemed normal and safe. However, you can never be too sure. Ferr placed his hands on the woman's shoulders to help keep her stable. "How can I help you? I hope nothing is wrong." His face became a touch more serious. ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

the man was larger than she had ever imagined him to be. this didn't detract from his appearance of course - no - instead it added onto his aesthetic in a positive way.
"i-i'm fine," she reassured, a tremble present within her voice. "i tripped over my own two feet - i apologize for that."
her wide-eyed gaze remained fixed upon him for a moment, the girl appearing particularly taken in by the length of his horns. they were prominent, slightly curved and made her own look rather pitiful in comparison.
'they're huge,' she marveled.
despite the obvious disparity in regards to their height, she didn't feel at all overwhelmed by his presence. instead, she delighted in the chance to encounter someone who was worthy of the title of captain; especially when they were a mutant.
"you're aesir," she said. "the knight captain of the ordan district."
a look of delight settled across her draconian features, her face flushed with excitement.
"i never met a captain before," she continued, her head bobbing up and down. "you're - "
her expression transitioned into one that betrayed her sudden sheepishness over her own behavior thus far. it was improper for a noble woman to behave in such a way - especially when they were addressing a man of power.
"i - well - "
she tittered softly, the female positively giddy by the reality of their meeting.
"sorry," she managed, stifling her chortles. "i must be acting terribly odd. it's just - it's an absolute honor to make your acquaintance, sir aesir."
brighid was half-tempted to offer her hand in greeting, but instead held them behind her back.
"i didn't expect to see you in a place like this one. hopefully nothing's amiss?"
she desperately hoped she wasn't inconveniencing the fellow by greeting him in such a way. and she feared that he'd view her as just that - an inconvenience.
'i doubt i'm leaving much of an impression either way,' she thought, despairingly.

eleasing the woman from his grasp, Ferr placed his hands beside himself and offered her a smile. His bright smile a contrast to his darker complexation. Ferr has met children who share more exaggerated reactions to this young noble lady. However, it felt warmer coming from her for some reason. He wanted to calm her down and make it known she was ok for her behavior. Being recognized was not just a perk of the job but what Ferr strives to accomplish. If this is how people react to his presence than perhaps, he should be careful? Ferr bowed his head with a smile, placing a hand over his heart in honor of her honoring him. "It's alright, miss. I was just on my morning walk; I do this every other day to check on things. Simply converse with the shop and stall owners. Maybe even by myself something for dinner later tonight." Shifting his hand from his heart to stomach, Ferr lightly tapped it and offered a small laugh to break the tension. "It is always an honor to meet someone new. Especially other morning birds." The question of business came to mind, but only in the context of a conversation, not an interrogation. As the man continued his time with the young woman, a reminder came to the front of his mind. "You called me Aesir." Ferr stated before clarifying. "True that is my name, but I like it when people call me by my first name. Ferr is fine, please. In my heart, I'm not sure if I have earned that title in all it's forms and honors yet. It is just fixture to my name the Council finds necessary for a man brought up from the common class."Looking over the woman again, he looked again to her horns. The smaller set was slender and elegant. A childish urge to touch them pinged in his head. Which was obviously rude and uncalled for. Especially when they were nothing but strangers. Hoping to fix that situation, the large man placed his hand out towards the stranger and offer to take hers. "And what is your name, miss? I'd love to know it." Ferr lowered himself slightly to ensure his head was level with her own. When looking down he noticed the claws which replaced normal toes. At this feature, he made no sound but only smiled. "ferr," she drawled, her head bobbing up and down in a nod. "ferr, then."
a surge of relief washed over her as she noted his amicable reaction - the soldier appearing to not have taken any offense to her foolish display nor her clumsy greeting.
'he seems the modest sort, actually.'
she'd expected him to be far more boisterous; arrogant, even. but the man carried himself in an unassuming way, his choice of words revealing to her this aspect of his personality. he was also undoubtedly polite, the offering of his hand and the lowering of his body greatly appreciated by his female counterpart.
"i am brighid," she said. "brighid stoneshire. i fear i've no grand title to go along with it."
the look upon her face reflected her pleasure at his willingness to partake in her company.
"and it's a relief to know that i'm not disturbing your usual morning routine."
his paw easily encompassed her own, the flesh of his palm unsurprisingly callous as it brushed against her own. it was as though he was specifically tailored for both field work and battle, his form heavy set and muscular. her gaze lingered upon the occasional scar that marred his flesh, the young woman intrigued by them.
'i'm tempted to ask. but that'd be rude, wouldn't it?'
"do you shop here as well, si - ferr," she amended, taking back her hand. "the shop owners must offer you goods at a reasonable price - far more reasonable than usual."
brighid wondered, at that moment, what he purchased to ensure he remained well-feed. she was certain that the council filled the pockets of their soldiers well enough; surely he'd have the funds needed to partake in the finest cuts of meat - the freshest bread made from golden wheat - and spices that were rarely gotten.
"may i join you on your walk for a while? i believe we're going the same way."

morning to you, Miss Brighid Stoneshire." Ferr claspsed her hand before giving it the sort of gentle and light peck that any knight would offer a lady. He lingered for a moment to feel her soft and warm skin. It was always an amazing thing to the mutant; the skin and smooth feeling a woman had that he could never obtain. The only part of him softer than her flesh might be the fleece which grows from his head, neck, and connect to the top of his torso. This white hair was so bountiful it slipped out the front of his tabard. Becoming mesmerized was easy for Ferr but he managed to pull himself out before the length he held her hand was too much. Standing back up to his full height, the Captian offered a nod to Brighid. His smile growing noticeably. The bull tail which protruded from behind the man waved faintly. "How honored I am. In truth, I was about to ask for your company if possible. I'd love to have you until you must depart."Ferr motioned his body forward down the row of vendors. Only taking a step when Brighid was prepared to follow. "It is like you asked. I normally shop from the owners I talk to. They offer me discounts since I watch over them. I am a guardian, yes. But I do get paid a fair salary. So I pay the price any man or woman would. I try to be an example after all. To my men, the people, and anyone who thinks they are too good for paying the full price." Ferr said this with conviction and purpose. The voice used though, Ferr though it was too harsh and quickly apologised to his walking compainion. "But I don't mean to sound greater-than-thou. I'm sorry."Clearing his throat, Ferr strolled with hands behind his back. The occasional vendor would call to him, and he'd wave back of course. "Oh um." He pointed to her basket. "Are you preparing just for the day or the week? Seems a tap small to me for more than a few days. But then again..." Ferr shugged and motioned towards his frame. Of course most things seemed smaller than they were to a man like himself. Ferr began to think to himself on what else to talk about. He had done this many times when conversing with other citizens. Granted the good standing he had with them was through months and months of small talk and converstaion. Would it be rude to ask about her occupation? A lady in waiting or perhaps she was help run a business her family was involved in? Yes, Ferr nodded, those were okay questions to ask. Do not talk too much about yourself, and always pay attention to what they say. React to them, make sure to stay engaged. Especially in this situation, the man realized. He wished only to entertain and learn more about this Stoneshire woman. ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

his stride was a bit lengthy, but the young woman managed to maintain a position by his side by hurrying hers own steps along. very much thankful for the opportunity to accompany him - his easy acceptance of her request having bolstered her confidence - she'd happily press onward with the conversation at hand with a certain amount of gusto.
'don't muck this up,' she thought. 'don't - muck - this - up.'
her mother had made an attempt at teaching her how to properly address the men and ladies of the court. due to her being rather beastly, she was expected to make up for her unremarkable creatures by showcasing a charming personality.
'i'm going to muck this up.'
she had had little to no success properly roping in a potential suitor, which had caused mother to grow impatient with her after her so many failures.
'but i can make friends easily enough,' she thought. 'i have a better chance at that than anything else.'
"j-just for the day."
brighid had just barely caught the tail end of his question, the girl slightly flustered as she rushed to offer the soldier an adequate response.
"i've only just moved from my family's property," she said. "so i typically purchase my own meat and milk from the market every morning to last me for a day."
it explained why she had yet to even catch a glimpse of him until now. she was still very much new at perusing the bazaar on her own.
"i assume you've important duties to tend to after the early morning hours. it must be exciting that - the life of a soldier, i mean."
brighid doubted that she'd be able to manage such an occupation. she hadn't the foggiest idea of how to wield weaponry nor navigate a battle.
'i've read about it in books,' she thought. 'but that's it, really.'
"i doubt i'd be much use as one," she admitted. "i much rather read about the life than partake in it."
the scent of fish caused her to take pause, her nostrils flaring in reaction.
"oh! fish! a moment, ferr. i won't be long."
she hurried to purchase a handful of smelt, no less than five bundled in thin cloth upon purchase. instead of stowing them away she'd return to ferr's side and treat them as though they were a snack. brighid popped one into her mouth and swallowed with an appreciative hum, the slippery and wonderfully raw creature easily slipping down her gullet.
"i haven't had these in ages," she breathed. "they're perfectly perfect while fresh, you know?"

only recently moved out, the girl said. Ferr nodded at his but then tried to actually guage her age now. In honesty it was much harder than normal. Her size and mutations covered up and gave a warped estimate of Brighid's age. She could not be older than roughly twenty though. The nobles that remained, along with many wealthy families, would manage to marry off the children by twenty the latest. Normally it caused issues for the parents if daughters were not courted by that time. And a bigger issue if the young men couldn't pin down a nice bride. The thought came to mind; What about those who did not conform to the normal and traditional roles? The men who loved men and women who admired women? Perhaps there was a separate rule set for those people. Ferr gave a mental shrug before returning to the conversation. Did he actually have anything important to do after this? Ferr might have to do a few rounds at the barracks, go through some investigation reports and what not. It all did not seem urgent, however. He was the Captain of the Knights; who is going to tell him how to do his job? "Captain Commander might," Ferr whispered under his breath subconsciously before a wave of nerves came over him. Yeah, the Commander might force him to do something. "Honestly I don't have any too important going on after this. Just some standard upkeep. Oh."As Brighid fetched her snack, Ferr just stood there. He didn't have to wait long but while he did, he waved and called out to a few more shop owners. When they called him over, he respectfully declined, stating he would return later in the day. When he turned back to smile at Brighid, the young woman demonstrating a quick takedown of her snack. "Impressive. Though I normally hate them grilled." A chuckle escaped his lips before he carried on. This time Ferr took smaller strides. He had noticed Brighid had some difficulty following his pace. It was not fair to her. "I don't want to intrude, but you said you recently left your family estate. What kind of work do you do to sustain yourself? Or...um...perhaps married." Ferr played with his fingers on the far side of his body, The question made the man nervous only after the words left his mouth. "It is um...Well I would expect a polite and fair young woman to be snatched up by some wealthy man. But I'm sorry if you don't want to talk about it." ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

her smile lessened until it disappeared completely, her good mood unintentionally trodden upon by the kindly fellow.
"ah - well..."
another smelt went down, its potent taste lingering upon her rough and pointed tongue.
"not one boy took an interest in me - not really. mother assumed it was because of my horrid manners and lack of etiquette but i'd say it was due to the teeth - the claws - the eyes."
she pouted, reminded of the years spent being relentlessly teased due to how her magic had decided to manifest.
'lizard is what they called me,' she thought, her features scrunching up into a grimace.
"i'm not exactly the fairest of ladies, ferr," she said. "not in the realm of public opinion, at least."
to most brighid was little more than a child who had the misfortune of inheriting her distinguished mother's most prominent features. but while her dam was comparatively more tall and fine-boned her genetics had rendered her short and round.
"but i've grown use to it - not being wanted, i mean," she assured. "my family keeps me on as their record keeper. i organize an archive that contains a wealth of information and in exchange i'm allowed to maintain my distance from court."
it was a decent life and one where she was oft left alone within the vast confines of house alder's library. brighid couldn't imagine herself doing much of anything else at her age; and while it was rather lonely she made do.
"and how about you, ferr? i've heard nothing of you having a wife nor keeping a mistress. are you distracted by work, perhaps?"
it'd be a simple thing for him to procure a wife - at least from her perspective. he was a handsome specimen and his position was prestigious in quality. yet he was entering his late twenties and still lacked a proper mate.

Ferr was quick to feel ashamed for asking his question. Not only did her aura change, but her words of defeat brought down Ferr along with herself. The giant placed a hand behind his neck as he hung his head in shame. Ferr should have kept his mouth shut. He didn't realize that other mutants had it more rough than he did. There were odd fellows and ladies in the city for sure, but I thought they all got along similarly to himself. It was then that Ferr remembered all the times he had been discriminated against for his slight mutations. It was not fair how magic manifested one way or another. In terms of combat, someone always had the advantage because of how their traits developed. Getting over that curve, and working past your opponents' strengths was one thing he taught the Knights under his command. A message and teaching meant to be coupled to people like Brighid and Ferr. Guess not everyone can utilize that lesson. Looking back over her, Ferr simply kept his opinion to himself. "I think you are fair." But in regards to her job, he was not exactly sure what she meant. Did that mean she handled money or something like that? Or maybe just organize the families books? Ferr was confused but too embarrassed to ask the girl to clarify. He was not a very smart man. And this might be the cause of Brighid's question. A sigh escaped his lips before Ferr visibly shrugged. His eyes cast down with almost a child-like pout. He tried his best to remain neutral, but remembering the many rejections was too much. "Well..." He started, hesitating to speak. "I haven't really had a lot of time to go looking since I took the position as Captian. But even before that, I just didn't sum up to what they all wanted. I have been told I was nice, but that I was not the type of guy they wanted to be with." For a moment, the bull-man remained silent and stopped moving. The pair had reached a stall which sold plump apples. Their fresh, crimson skin was freshly washed and glittered in the sun. A physical representation of the opposite of Ferr's current state of ego. "Good morning, Colt." He would address the stall owner before purchasing a bundle of seven apples. After a short exchange, Ferr offered Brighid one of the apples before crushing another with his teeth, swallowing it whole. "We are similar I guess, Brighid. But I feel you are wrong about yourself. During this whole conversation, you have been very polite. Believe me when I say some noble ladies have worse manners than jerks and the lowest class bums."Ferr continued with his slow pace down the row, burlap bag of apples swinging by his side. The man's eyes reflected his state of being in that moment; thoughtful. "You know, I actually have not told anyone that part of my life. Not even my own father. I guess I would just expect him to tell me I'm doing something wrong." ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

'me? fair?'
she blinked at him, visibly unconvinced by his compliment.
'he is being polite. but if he at least finds my appearance to be tolerable enough...'
"thank you."
she had only just polished off the remainder of her smelt when he had offered her an apple. brighid happily accepted the bright and round fruit, her pointed teeth soon digging into its crispy flesh. she chewed slowly and considered his words as she did so, mulling over a response.
"it's strange that you'd be rejected, ferr."
perhaps she was in luck then? it was expected that a girl of her age and standing would seek out someone with the intention of courting them. but brighid felt as though she'd play the part of the manipulator if she took advantage of ferr's inability to find a woman.
'mother would tell me otherwise.'
the young woman released a snort at the thought of that sharp-tongued female. after contemplating and weighing her options she continued to speak, forcing herself to bolster a relaxed air about her.
"i appreciate your honesty," she said, baring her teeth in a broad grin. "and your willingness to accept my company."
she hoped that she had charmed him somehow. or at least left enough of an impression to be imprinted within the confines of his memory.
"i hope you don't mind if i pry..."
brighid hesitated for a moment or two before tentatively presenting the man with a question.
"is there anything you're looking for in a woman?"
she took another quick bite of her apple and swallowed it down, the little female attempting to rid herself of the nerves that threatened to serve as her undoing.
"perhaps i can offer some form of advice if i'm aware of your 'type'?"
it was a tiny fib - a slight alteration of the truth - but one she hoped he'd fail to take any notice to.

it was time for Ferr to think about that. Brighid brought up an important factor that Ferr was passive on up until this point. What was his type anyway? So far he had only felt a viberation, and aura around certain women he found himself attracted to. Perhaps it was this special aura that made him attratced to them? But what was this aura! It isn't a literal mist or power. "Good question." Ferr paused and began thinking about the subject in more depth. He stood there like a tall and dark collum in the center of the market place. For the first time today, the Captain stocked the white hair beneath his face. Slow and methodical, almost like he was petting a kitten. "I suppose..." He hummed before turning back to Brighid. "I honestly can't tell. Up until this point, it is been an instinct. The woman I have tried before were all beautiful in my eye. Examples of what the Stars could design and place in the form of a human being. Mutant or not. Poor or wealthy. Oh! They also need to be smart!"Ferr stated this with a smile before he reached into his bag. He took out another apple and studied it. The beautiful and plump fruit was a delight to eat and view. "I wish them to be pleasant. Beauty and intelligence often make men and woman ugly inside. Her inner light might be as bright as her eyes. That is what I think I am attracted to. Of course, she has to deal with me and the many shortcomings I may have." His ebony and crimson eyes were entranced not to the apple, but the far off vision of a bright light his imagination had crafted. The man snapped out of this short trance before biting down and swallowing the apple whole. "But I guess that's all? I don't know. I am not good with this deeply emotional stuff. Enough of me. Does that sound weird?" Ferr displayed a fearful frown, worried that he was a strange man and the polite Brighid was uncomfortable now that he had spoken. It was normal for him when dealing with women, but he was also a little nervous when speaking like this. He had only just met this woman and Ferr exposed his inner thoughts to her. More than anything, Ferr was worried he was taking advantage of her good will and politeness. It was a common issue the mutant had to fix. If anything, Ferr just didn't want to be allow anymore. His arms were large, strong, and safe. Yet they still filled empty without someone to hold. "I just want someone to hold." He thought. "To hold and to be mine." ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY

"no," she assured. "it doesn't sound strange. not to me, at least."
brighid puzzled over his words and the woman he described. he sought out a creature whom was a combination of intelligent and genuine. it was at that moment she understood why he had a difficult time acquiring a woman - especially of the noble variant. females were inherently finicky and difficult to please creatures - and she supposed those whom he had propositioned were just that; finicky and hard to please.
"i think all you need is patience," she advised, offering him a smile. "it's good to know that you're still interested in acquiring a wife despite being rejected so many times."
she imagined the male as disappointed and forlorn at the moment of rejection. the mere thought of him having been turned away so many times pained her, a hint of a grimace causing the corners of her lips to pull downwards into a frown.
"but it's not impossible to find what you want," she declared. "all you need to do is remain motivated and hopeful for the future."
brighid polished off the remainder of her apple, taking big bites of the crunchy food before inevitably whittling it down to its core. it would be tossed into the nearest disposal bin, the draconian female's aim fairly impressive.
"you're the noble sort - and handsome as well," she said, taking care to sprinkle in a little praise to further bolster his confidence.
she glanced skywards and realize that the sun had begun to shift its position. they were well into the morning now, with an abundance of moving bodies filling the formerly empty streets.
'damn.'
"i'll need to take my leave soon," she murmured, visibly disappointed. "i've work."
brighid's gaze settled upon her bare feet for a moment before she raised it to meet his own.
"may i see you again, ferr?"
it was yet another question that was tentatively presented to the male, her expression partially guarded - as though she feared rejection.
"perhaps when you're free from your duties again and have some time for yourself?"

The noble girl found Ferr to be handsome? This caused Ferr to blush even though it was not visible under his dark cheeks and mane-like hair. The giant of a man couldn't help but smile lightly as the words of encouragement and positivity stramed forth like a sun's light. Brighid was quickly becoming one of Ferr's favorites and they had met not even a half hour ago. She was respecting his thoughts and opinions. Talking to her was a lot like talking to a good friend. Even if they just met. It even was a disappointment when Brighid made it urgent she had to leave. With a sigh Ferr nodded to the sky. "I suppose I lost track of time. Please forgive me if I made you late!" He was slightly fearful that by talking with the woman, she would be late and be reprimanded. "Please, please. If you are in a rush don't let me stop you. But if we can, I would love to talk to you again. I will be on duty until two days from now. I'd be happy to spend that time with you. Perhaps the Queen's Garden? They are lovely this time of year."
