[nospaces] [attr="class","opmind"] [attr="class","opmindblurb"] [attr="class","opmindblurb1"]The ensuing chaos had attracted a threat other than the Homunculus. A member of the Grimm Troupe, the leader of this district had found her way to the incident's ground zero. And with little hesitation, she made her move attacking the Council Members. This would certainly cut their engagement with the artificial creature short, if only for a moment. But the distraction the rubble raining down from the sky would give a small opening for the Homunculus to escape on foot.[break][break]
Albeit its ability to move much faster, it has not yet understood its powers and abilities, nor has it become fully capable of rationale. However, the Homunculus has begun to understand its capacity for empathy. While it is still deadset on escaping, it is beginning to feel regret. Not only for the building it caused to collapse just moments ago with its haphazard attempt of an attack on the Council Captain, but also because the knowledge that it is the cause of all of this has started to manifest. [break][break]
While this conflict is ensuing, two unlikely allies have found themselves in the midst of all this chaos and are trying their damndest to quell as much suffering as possible. Surprisingly enough, one more character has sprung on the scene and decided to be of aid to the two protectors of life, albeit her commandeering tone inviting anything but trustworthiness.

[nospaces] [attr="class","opmind"] [attr="class","opmindblurb"] [attr="class","opmindblurb1"]The Homunculus‘ breakout from the institute had left behind chaos, confusion and several bystanders injured and casualties. Upon landing somewhere in the middle of Altair’s bustling streets near the arts district, it had released a surge of magic that left behind a massive crater. Many of those caught in the blast had died, while others were injured. Only a couple dozen had made it out unscathed, as if by sheer miracle. [break][break]
The incident at the institute had already been cause for the council to take action. While an investigative squad was taking a look at the institute, a larger squadron had been sent out to search for the supposed perpetrator. That it was a Homunculus was yet to be discovered by Eos. After all, such ideas, while interesting to discuss, were against the law to research. The attempted creation of one was completely unheard of in the last two centuries. While tales and legends about artificial humans created by magic were ingrained in Eos’ culture, these myths were treated fantasy. The product of stories crafted to scare children, at most.[break][break]
The second incident had immediately forced the council to spring into action. Several Knights had been activated and were moving towards the origin of the newly created chaos in the midst of Altair. The ground zero of the blast had taken out a large city block, not quite a mile wide but close to it, and the casualties were estimated to be in the several thousands. In addition to a squadron with around 500 soldiers, the Captain of Fersen had also been drafted to lead this troop. Originally in Altair to handle the transferal of a large batch of criminals for the Trench, she was the closest to the catastrophe and was ordered to move swiftly.
Arriving at the cause of all the mayhem, the council orders were clear. Act fast, act swiftly. Considering the level of destruction, it was clear the threat was imminent. In the span of maybe 30 minutes, the monster had injured and killed several institute members, destroyed a large part of institute grounds and followed this up by wiping out an entire district block and killing several thousands of civilians.[break][break]
But while the eyes of the public saw the Homunculus as nothing but a threat, the inner workings of the creature were manifesting. It was capable of thought. It possessed previously ingrained knowledge. It knew what humans were. It could understand language and think words. It possessed feelings, but its empathy was still developing. It couldn’t seem to understand the destruction it has caused. It didn’t understand pain yet, but it for all intents and purposes, it was aware. A living creature.[break][break]
And before the threat of the council’s army encircling it, the creature lashed out once more, albeit at a much more reasonable scale. A blast of magic that would leave behind a crater on impact, forceful enough to tear away any barriers or defenses, and lethal enough to kill surged from its arm, that it swung in a whip like motion from overhead.

[nospaces] [attr="class","opmind"] [attr="class","opmindblurb"] [attr="class","opmindblurb1"] P R O L O G U E [BREAK] Several steps down a steep corridor that was more cave than manmade structure, in a dimly lit room with no windows that was isolated from the rest of the institute, silhouettes quietly went about their work. Research equipment lay about. Files, all sorts of technological gizmos and liquids in tubes laced the walls. They circled around the center of the room, where the only source of light tinted the laboratory in a turquoise hue. The only sound, aside from silent murmurs and muffled buzzing of tubes and machines, came from within this source of light. Three large cylindrical tanks enclosed by thick glass walls and a footing made of complex technology. The blue-ish green viscous solution that filled these containers housing a humanoid shape within them.[break][break] "The first one is nearing completion. We are one day ahead schedule. I still think we wait until tomorrow." The voice was dry, and coarse. It was a man's voice. The tall scientist standing in a white lab coat with the emblem of the institute of sorcery on it spoke with authority.[break][break] "If we release it today... we would get almost 24 hours of additional testing done. That could prove invaluable for the completion of the other two subjects." Another voice spoke softer than the first. A female voice. The woman it belonged to had a slim face with almost snake-like features. Her face suggested annoyance.[break][break] "You might be my superior, but what I've done here far exceeds your capabilities. My personal involvement has not clouded my judgement just yet." The first voice replied, gratingly and with challenge in its tone.[break][break] "That's right. I am your superior. Check the vitals again. Increase the dosage, and get it out in one hour." Her words were full of poison. [break][break] "If we do that, it might become instable... Just because the vitals match the prognosis does not ensure complete success. We have the buffer, we should wait." [break][break] The woman waited a bit. "No. If we deliver results to our benefactor earlier, they might increase funding. Do it now."[break][break] No more words followed. The muffled buzzing of the machines, and the bubbles rising from the creature in the tank were all that remained.[break][break]
