[attr="class","float-clear"] [attr="class","gumshoos-post"] [break][break]The humidity of the Crossroads always bothered Locke when she went, but today’s task demanded that she suffers through it. Locke believed that Yvel needed compensation for what she did, saving her life. Outside of serving her, Locke guessed that she was now a part of the family. She didn’t know how yet to speak her new mother. Though her father always taught her that sometimes words were not needed to make the first step. Maybe Yvel would understand Locke’s feelings if she did this, or maybe it would go horribly. The girl wasn’t sure but there was no point in being apprehensive.
[break][break]All she hoped was that Yvel liked apples.
[break][break]Browsing through a homegrown fruit stand, Locke didn’t notice how off-kilter her appearance was. Garbed in clothing too expensive, she was the fixation of many travelers. Some of them had just arrived and they couldn’t resist taking a peek at the young female. Her senses hadn’t honed enough to detect the questioning gazes of the public, nor was she subtle enough to hide her turning glances.
[break][break]“Are those sufficient?” the shop owner asked, capturing Locke’s attention. Nervously, Locke looked around to the apples, the shop keeper, and back to the apples.
[break][break]Locke started collecting apples to her basket and scrambling for whatever currency she had. She flinched soon after when she felt more money than she ever had before. Did Yvel give her that much, she pondered. Without much thought to the pricing, she handed the shopkeep money. He didn’t necessarily know how to handle as much as she gave him, but it was enough to make him smile widely at the supposed generosity. “Thank you very much, miss!”
[break][break]The young woman almost ran away to stave off the continued awkwardness. As she did, she relaxed on a nearby wall before checking the coin purse she had. “This is more than anything Father had,” she mumbled. Rhyme
Haaaaaaa.
I think it might be Locke doing some charity work with Rhyme as the security detail. I'm not sure if I'm right in believing that Locke would serve as an ambassador-like figure during the charity event. Kind of give it that spectator feeling before Rhyme and Locke officially meet there. From there, it could develop into them both just being generally nice people and getting past the initial barrier of being strangers. It keeps it pretty natural there.

The way you put that gives me the idea that they keep running into one another. Which would give way for his shilling. Eventually, I would think it'd be funny for Locke, who was raised in a country lifestyle, would just realize what he's doing. However, she's way too timid to try to confront him on it and ends up giving in just on the prospect of being considerate. Luckily, Locke goes out enough on her own, mostly thanks to the fact that she now has the finance to do things.
That finance gives way to her being able to explore the world for clues and just general knowledge. So, it's not uncommon for her to meet Raimell throughout the world.

Primarily, I would be looking for two people to be filling in the roles of two very important people in Locke's life. When her family was killed, it was by the hands of two people.
1. A Grimm Troupe member who used her and her family as hostages. 2. A Etherium Council member who disregarded their lives to try to secure an arrest.
Locke doesn't seek vengeance in the case of bloody murder. Instead, she just wants justice and finality for her family's death. As such, the two people don't need to fit any criteria in regards to their views and personality. That can be developed over time and conversation. A few bonus points is that this event is also responsible for the scar that is on Locke's eye. It's a painful reminder of her inability to do anything in a perilous situation.
3. A teacher.
Locke is training to become ready to confront and potentially fight the two people she has swore to bring to justice. Yvel's a wonderful teacher, but Locke would also want to find someone that can help her with her swordplay.
4. Friends that can challenge her shy and evasive personality.
This is fairly self-explanatory. Locke's trauma has merged into her established shyness. She's scared of the world and the people in it, but she's not closed off to it. The young woman will need someone to be able to bring her out of that shell. She'll need people that will help push her to heal.

My general understanding is that Locke hasn't exactly settled into being an agent for House Alder. She does whatever job that her mother bestows upon her. As such, she's being taught "evil" but it isn't sticking because that's not the kind of person that Locke is or wants to be. Rhyme demonstrates a rather gentle and pleasant energy that Locke may not immediately run off. That said, since he would be an intruder, she would have to put on the hostile face.
If they can get past that, it's probably easier for them to become friends.

about
Flying in circles, just trying to land
Locke Alder is defined by her shyness, which was born from her traumatic experience. She doesn’t understand the factions nor their disregard for the law and wanton destruction. As such, she tries not to express herself too much, in fear of getting too close to someone would easily kill her at a moment’s notice. With that, she doesn’t drop her formalities. She’s rigidly polite, to the point of being annoying. Her most striking detail is the lack of joy that she exudes. Locke commonly meets people with a forlorn expression, never staring someone in the eye, or keeping distance amidst conversation. Locke is a hurt fox, not sure how to react to her new world or engage in it. Thread lightly towards her or else she’ll run and you’ll never see her again. [break][break]
allies
I see you hurting, I do what I can
Getting past the barriers that Locke keeps up and you meet a person who is astute, aware, and affectionate. Though she’s not going to be any more exuberant than she is in day-to-day life, she offers a kindness that never yields. A worrywart at heart, Locke will be the type of friend that would stay by your bedside, nurse you back to health, and see to you being the best person you can be daily. Even more so, she has a deep loyalty, thanks to her lack of trust towards other people. That said, it’s very easy to lose Locke’s friendship. If she sees that a friend or an associate will do anything to harm her or innocent lives, she’ll distance herself. Her morals are more ironclad than any friendship.[break][break]
seeking outside friends, a teacher
enemies
But I won't save you
The idea of having enemies in this new world terrifies Locke. However, she understands that House Alder has many enemies in every nook and cranny. As such, she does have a notion that she may one day have to delve herself into such a relationship. A total enemy is someone that Locke will try to alienate herself from entirely, making sure not to have too much contact with them. The more dangerous they are, the more active she is in her evasions. Though, there are other levels under the absolute enemy category. If she’s someone that she believes she can help, Locke will try to shift them to a neutral standing or even a friend. [break][break]

lovers
Maybe you're looking for someone to blame
Lovers?! Locke didn’t have time for romance or sex when she was younger. Courting the young Alder is a difficult but rewarding task. Her initial barriers of shyness may ward people off but trying to confront her with romantic gestures will get you an entertaining response. Locke’s physical attributes, such as her pale, elven-like face, tend to flush bright red. She will run away if she’s a little to flustered. The poor girl is a walking presentation of nervous energy. Try to be too forward and she’ll run away fast. [break][break]

[nospaces] [attr="class","nodens"] [attr="class","nodens2"] [attr="class","nodenstop"] THE EMPTY CHOIR – TRICK SWORD[attr="class","nodensbulk"]
[attr="class","nodenscontainer"] [attr="class","nodensheader"]ARTIFACT DESCRIPTION [attr="class","nodensmagleft"] [attr="class","nodensmagleft2"] The Empty Choir is a creation engineered by House Alder per Locke’s request. The artifact is a set of magical weaponry all fused into one container. Primarily while it is sheathed, the Empty Choir looks like a standard longsword, which is Locke’s primary weapon. It shines a distinct sky-blue color in the light, giving hints of its magical nature. Remaining in this way allows for easy transportation and to veil the secret that the inventive weapon holds.
[attr="class","nodensheader"]ARTIFACT ABILITIES [attr="class","nodensmagleft"] [attr="class","nodensmagleft2"] - Much to many opponents’ shock, The Empty Choir isn’t a weapon that exists, instead existing in some sort of pocket dimension that only Locke can access. At her will, Locke can metamorphize the weapon into one of its different forms. The primary one she uses is the longsword that she’s most familiar with. If need be, she can change the longsword into a sizeable claymore to deal heavier damage and add some weight to her fighting style. Locke says that the Empty Choir’s set of weapons can evolve, allowing her an unpredictable fighting style.
- Though the mesmerizing ability of the Empty Choir is that it grants her the proper physical attribute to wield whatever weapon. If she needs more speed, she can switch to two daggers and gain said speed. If she needs strength and endurance, the claymore or the double-sided axe may work in that favor. Locke herself is a fledgling weapons master, having a good amount of knowledge in her array of weapons. Those two traits give her an opening edge against opponents who may not be able to contend with each weapon presented. Even worse, it only takes an instant for her to switch her weapons, the only indication of her doing so is the way she has to summon the next weapon. For example, if she’s about to use the claymore, she must reach for the scabbard on her back to do so. Locke has, however, managed to try to mitigate the visibility of her motion.
- Yet, the clear weaknesses of the Empty Choir come forth in her exact expertise in combat. She’s by no means a master fighter. She is unsteady, nervous, and steps away from combat if possible. Inexperience also plays into her combat style. Being a nineteen-year-old with only a few years of fighting experience, a prodigal learning ability and an unusual artifact can only stand against a seasoned fighter, or worse, killer for so long. Tenacious as she is, Locke doesn’t stand well against heavy attacks, a sign of her emotional and physical frailty. She may get up from the hard hit, but it may only be due to her need to survive, nothing else.

[attr="class","nodenscontainer"] [attr="class","nodensright"] [attr="class","nodensheader"]ENCHANTMENT - QUICKSLIVER BLADE [attr="class","nodensmagright"] [attr="class","nodensmagright2"] Duration: Until Locke is hurt severely enough[break] Cooldown: Once Per Fight Thread[break][break] Activating the spell grants Locke a fearsome ability. The Empty Choir gains the property to injure anything, being able to cut spirits and through magical defenses. It allows Locke to even the playing field, yet her physical defenses forces her to be thoughtful with the technique. If she takes too much damage, she must wait to use the enchantment in another battle.
[attr="class","nodensheader"]ENCHANTMENT RELEASE- COMPOTENCE [attr="class","nodensmagright"] [attr="class","nodensmagright2"] Duration: 3 Posts [break] Cooldown: 6 Posts[break][break] Disabling the Empty Choir’s metamorphic ability, Locke takes on the magic within herself to use whichever weapon she is holding on a level way beyond her normal state. This grants her the temporary means to fight a stronger opponent. However, it only enhances her ability to wield a weapon, not any of her physical attributes.
[attr="class","nodensheader"]ENCHANTMENT RELEASE - THE VIOLENT GOSPEL [attr="class","nodensmagright"] [attr="class","nodensmagright2"] Duration: 1 Post[break] Cooldown: Twice Per Fight Thread[break][break] The Violent Gospel is considered Locke’s strongest attack. All the weapons in the Empty Choir appear and dissipate into several runes, opening a magical gate in the sky. A rain of shining weapons crashes down on the battlefield, but they are only a precursor for the spear of energy that crashes down pinpointed on the enemy. The destructive qualities of the impact are something far beyond Locke’s power and scope. If used more times than twice, Locke will die from overexertion. Beyond that, Locke doesn’t enjoy what damage that it could cause to a populated area, thus she only chooses to use it in places that can take the damage.
[attr="class","nodensheader"]ENCHANTMENT AUGMENT - PHANTOM PARADE [attr="class","nodensmagright"] [attr="class","nodensmagright2"] Duration: 3 Posts[break] Cooldown: Once Per Fight Thread[break][break] Harnessing the true nature of the Empty Choir, Locke can create several clones of ethereal nature. Each of them can wield one of the several Empty Choir weapons. Unlike Locke, these clones have full knowledge and physical aptitude to use them. They emerge upon Locke making a striking motion or moving forward on the offensive. The goal of this augmentation is to overwhelm an opponent with forces that can evenly contend with them. The drawback is severe as all their wounds can do damage to Locke. For example, slaying a clone can cause Locke to faint temporarily. If all of the clones are to die, it is possible that Locke herself may die.

[attr="class","nodensheader"]CHARACTER BACKGROUND [attr="class","nodenscharright"] [attr="class","nodenscharright2"] The story of Locke Seramandis doesn’t matter regarding what led up to the birth of Locke Alder. Her family were dutiful citizens of Eos. Her mother, Elena, had passed before the tragedy that took the rest of her family away from her. As such, her father, Warrick, became the rock of the household, taking on any job that he could to help provide for the family. His absence forced Saya, Locke’s older sister, to become the de-facto mother of the household. Even she couldn’t escape the struggle of working long hours to provide for her two younger siblings. Locke’s older brother, Kellan, had a bright future ahead of him with a scholarship to study at the Academy of Eos. Locke herself was looking to become a part of the Etherium Council, thinking that the benefits of living there would truly save her family. [break][break]
Her father came home with the prospect of a vacation. To reward everyone’s efforts, he thought that it would be a nice change of pace. A trip to Rosa, particularly the famous Augury Square, was something that Locke could only dream of. However, those dreams of brief reprieve from her struggles became a nightmare that would torture her forever. The chances that Augury Square would be attacked were slim. The chances that her family would be hurt were even slimmer. A battle between the Etherium Council and the Grimm Troupe broke out, due to the latter’s choice to try to destroy some immense property. [break][break]
Her family were not just bystanders hurt by the fray. A member of the Grimm Troupe targeted the family to try to dissuade a high-ranking member of the Etherium Council. When discussions fell apart, due to the Council soldier’s reckless words, the Grimm Troupe operative killed everyone. Locke was the last one standing, having watched her family be killed in such a free-spirited way. As she tried to process it, she too was killed, a bladed weapon cutting her across the face.[break][break]
Darkness invited her into its cold clutches but didn’t drown her. Instead, it nurtured her dying body until an unexpected helpful hand dragged her back to the land of the living. When she woke up, it had been a full two months. The memory of the terrible day traversed through her head, yet without any answers to comfort her. She was in a bedchamber that was far too lavish with things that Locke had only seen in store windows. The doorknob turned and in came a butler, who gathered bloodstained towels, medical instruments, and empty bowls. A woman dressed in white came in to greet her awakening, but she only offers her condolences.[break][break]
It was then that Locke had to trust in the truth presented.[break][break]
Her family was victims, killed, and never coming back. She was alone in the world with nothing left. In response, the woman, Yvel Roschwels Alder, explained herself and why she took the dying girl in. It wasn’t long before the name Seramandis was torn away from Locke. She committed to being an Alder, becoming the Matriarch’s adoptive daughter. From there, she was sent into a world she never knew existed, her ignorance slowly destroyed each waking day. Though it never gave her purpose. Locke followed orders and accepted guidance, yet to what end?[break][break]
Perhaps to hunt down the Grimm Troupe member who ruined her life?[break][break]
To persecute the Etherium Council soldier who sacrificed her family for a brief but futile advantage?[break][break]
Going back to her family home, she took all she could. Standing in front of it, recalling the memories of a happier time, she set it ablaze. It was no longer needed. Locke Seramandis, a joyful girl, died a gruesome death. The shell of a girl who now walked the world was devoid of that exuberance. [break][break]
Locke Alder doesn’t make herself available for much, proving to be shy to the point of seeming aloof. She doesn’t bear the murderous energy that one may need to seek vengeance. Skittish to the point of having to contain screams, it’s apparent that Locke still hasn’t grown used to the natural violence of the world. Though she counterbalances the weakness with a gentle kindness, there’s still anger dwelling in her heart. Murdering the killers of her family wouldn’t bring her peace but she hopes to one day bring them to justice.[break][break]
Even it means aligning herself with a family that she fears is just as bad as all the world’s evils. |
