[attr="class","raipost"] Water, check. Dagger, check. A bundle of tools, each suited for cutting, digging, crushing, and measuring. A first aid kit, emergency rations? Raimell rummaged through his bag, feeling stupider by the second. Bug repellent. Just how much did he fit in there, and how much more could it hold?[break][break] Raimell closed his bag with a snap and decided to not look at its contents any longer. The sooner he gets the job started, the faster he’ll forget about the fact that he had somehow managed to pack enough for a 2-day outing for a group like someone’s anxious mommy. Not that he’s the type to worry about stuff like this, but seeing that it was indeed his first time being the issuer of a quest, he might have felt a tad bit more responsible than usual.[break][break] Okay, well, a little more than a tad bit.[break][break] Pushing himself off the ledge he’d been dangling his legs from, Raimell slung the bag that was already starting to weigh down over one shoulder, then glanced in the general direction of the guild. He had already been waiting at the city gates for quite some time; not that the other party was late, because he was the one who was early, since he just couldn’t help but feel a little anxious, wondering what type of person would choose to go herb picking with a no-name like him. [break][break] Certainly not an established adventurer. No way. A rookie was more likely, or even your average lawful citizen who was curious enough to fancy a walk in the woods. Either way, the least he could do was make sure he returned them home in one piece. Which meant all those unnecessary luggage was justified. Somewhat. He blew some stray hairs out of his face, already feeling like he’d run a marathon while the sun was still a long way from reaching its pinnacle in the sky. [attr="class","rainotes"] Rhyme |

Rhyme really hadn't been sure what to pack, beyond food and water, and besides, he didn't really have many belongings, and most certainly not specialized equipment for... picking herbs. He didn't know much about the topic (to be honest, he didn't know a lot of things on a variety of topics), but the request said that it was okay for someone who didn't know much about it to apply, all they needed was another set of hands.
Speaking of herbs, there was a person he knew in passing who... oh. He's here? "Raimell?" he said, seeing his acquaintance... would it be presumptuous to call him friend? He waved, just in case his voice was not enough to catch his attention.
He had been one of the people who had found him in the ruin, but he was... slightly harder to find than Iocus at times, so they hadn't always been able to converse and know each other well. Then again, Iocus was generally easier to find than most people on account of his preference to be immobile... ah, he was getting off-track.
He looked to one side and the other. "Are you here for the quest too? Where's the person who issued it... oh." While Rhyme could be very insightful at times, sometimes he could also be... very slow. "You're the one who issued it? Wouldn't that be expensive? I mean, I'm getting paid, but, erm..."
"...so, uh... please take care of me?"

[attr="class","raipost"] It was quite the unusual experience, hearing his name called in the street, and at such an early hour no less. Being a street vendor and all, he was used to meeting people, but most of them he’d only come to know by appearance, and out of the ones he did memorize by name, most of them were either people he wanted to steer clear of or people he had to bribe. In short, he was sorely lacking in friends. [break][break] However, that did make it easier to figure out from voice alone just who was calling for him.[break][break] Raimell turned, a grin on his face as he dipped his head to acknowledge Rhyme, his own hands already busy digging through his luggage. ’Hahaha! You don’t say. I’m bleeding a fortune here, so you’d better pull your weight.’ He jested, his grin widening as he fished out an empty bag and tossed it at the sheepish looking guy, motioning for him to follow as he set off for the outskirts. [break][break] ‘Can’t have you go passing out on me again, so if you’ll excuse me for asking, how is your body holding up? Sleeping well? Migraines, vertigo, anything out of the ordinary that I should take note of?’ He looked his impromptu assistant up and down as he walked, his eyes a curious gleam and his hand already on its way to snatching up Rhyme’s wrist to check his pulse. He was planning to cover quite a lot of distance today, straight into the thick of the forest, where nature was still unperturbed and rare herbs were potent and plenty. If Rhyme indeed carried his weight - and the bag’s weight as well, he could very well make back double the cost on this trip alone. [attr="class","rainotes"] Rhyme |

Rhyme chuckled. Just seeing a familiar face was reassuring; what's more, this seemed particularly up Raimell's alley, so he probably just needed more manpower. "I'll do my best!" he optimistically responded. "Although I don't know a lot of stuff, so you'll have to tell me what to do, haha." he sheepishly added. He caught the empty bag easily, and moved to follow the herbalist out of the city.
"Hey, hey, you found me passed out, I didn't pass out on you." he easily jabbed back. "I seem fine enough." He wondered if he should tell him about how he'd found his mutations work since the last time they'd seen each other, but they seemed to be working well enough and didn't seem detrimental to his health... although didn't Raimell think his body was strange from the start when they found him in the ruin? "I'm not really sure what's out of the ordinary for me, though." He laughed nervously.
Soon enough they were past the gates and into the forest proper, the walls of the megalopolis retreating behind their backs. "It was somewhere around this forest that you found me, right?" he thought aloud.
"So, what are we looking for, exactly?"

[attr="class","raipost"] Raimell blinked. ’Well someone’s got a pretty good memory for an amnesiac.’ He threw Rhyme a nudge to his ribs. ‘You seem to be in good enough spirits at least, I’d say that’s a pretty good sign. And who knows? Maybe this is ordinary for you. It’s not easy for anyone to do a complete 180 on their mannerisms just from memory loss.’ [break][break] Besides, that wasn’t what had caught his interest at the moment. Raimell withdrew his hand, mulling over the strange sensation still lingering on his fingertips. It was exactly the same as the last time he had examined Rhyme, when he was passed out in the ruin while the group he’d been with was trying to determine whether he was still alive. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but something about the way Rhyme’s body functioned or, dare he suggest it, the way his body was constructed, didn’t exactly feel normal. Well, as normal as a biologically functional human should be. [break][break] Skin, flesh and bones. No matter how much a body had undergone any amount of mutation, the basic building blocks should still be intact to some degree, and with his…aptitude…in discerning the unknown, he should be able to figure out the amnesiac’s condition. Or maybe he should simply ask.[break][break] Raimell cast a sideways glance at the young man, who seemed to be enjoying himself over the peace and quiet the forest had to offer. He’s never been the type to withhold a question, but even he could tell that he’d be nosy rather than curious if he started anything now. Everyone had a secret or three they’d want to keep, especially if exposing them endangered their own life. Raimell wasn’t any different in this regard, therefore he should know better. However, knowing better was different from behaving better. He was itching to ask, and the thought was written all over his face even as he tried to ignore it. [break][break] ‘That’s where we are headed today. Where we first found you, I mean.’ He replied after a while, trying to reel his thoughts back in. ‘I wasn’t with the main group at the time. They were trying to comb through the ruin for some hidden treasure - unfortunately you were about the only “treasure” they discovered, but! That’s if you only paid attention to the interior.’[break][break] He was talking a little faster now and livening up from the excitement of his own little discovery, Rhyme’s mysterious condition temporarily forgotten. ‘We might not have been the first to set foot in that ruin, but I can assure you, we were the first to do so in a long time. Otherwise, I doubt anyone with some knowledge about medicine would’ve left all those wild herbs growing alone. Snakeroot, eyebright, some of them you can’t even find outside of the Black Market, you know those shrubs with strings of purple bell-shaped flowers?…’ [break][break] It seemed as if he could go on forever when the topic shifted to his area of expertise, but the same couldn’t be said for the trail they followed. The ground became more uneven and slippery with moss as the trail thinned, then disappeared altogether in the form of soft forest turf as they ventured even deeper. The easier part of the journey was over, but that was to be expected. After all, it wouldn’t be a secret ruin if a road had been built leading right towards it![break][break] ‘Almost there now. Feel at home yet?’ He asked as he pushed a low-hanging branch out of the way. [attr="class","rainotes"] Rhyme |

"Mrm. I'd like to think there's enough of me left in my brain, haha."
Even as they kept on their banter, it seemed that something was on Raimell's mind--- something about him, it seemed. He wondered if he should ask him about it--- ah, would you look at that, it was becoming so evident that he didn't even need his supernatural senses to pick up his... curiosity.
Still, to be in the direction of where they had found him, before, before--- sometimes, Rhyme had considered the idea of visiting that area again, even if it might be a fool's errand. Who knows, perhaps within the ruins may be some clue regarding his identity... unless, of course, he had ended up there sleeping at random. No... he couldn't shake the feeling that that ruin had some sort of significance to his nature.
Ah, he's getting engrossed in his explanations. Rhyme thought, smiling much like a parent looking over their son. Seeing him detail how he had found, just outside the ruin, a veritable treasure trove of precious plants and herbs, made him about as happy as Raimell was right now. "I'm not really familiar with those herbs... or the Black Market... but if you say they're useful, that's good."
He carefully followed the herbalist, keeping track of obstacles like the branch he had pushed, the strange quirks of the ground that dissuaded further progress. It wouldn't do to slip around here, no matter how durable his body was... ah. Was that what Raimell was thinking about a while ago? Maybe he could bring it up later... if he thought about it again...
"Almost." he replied, cheekily. "Although I could do with less insects and itchy grass."

[attr="class","raipost"] ‘I did bring some bug repellent. Ten gold for a jar, what do you say? You won’t find a better deal anywhere around here.’ Raimell pinched his thumb and forefinger together, a typical merchant’s way of demanding payment, but a mischievous grin had already begun to spread on his face. He didn’t actually mean what he had said, but it was so pleasant being in another’s company on an otherwise tedious trip that he couldn’t help himself. However, he wasn’t in a hurry to rummage through his bag of holding while on the move. Too much hassle, and besides, they shouldn’t be too far from their destination.[break][break] Raimell squinted at the various shapes popping up in the distance, just as the ground beneath their feet took a small decline. The ruin was in sight, as run-down as ever basking in the harsh sunlight that bleached all signs of its former glory out of the exposed pillars and walls. It must have been quite the daunting structure back in its day, but the ruin as it stood now was different, overgrown with heavy greenery. Small trees grew on the outer walls, and thick, variegated weeds, knee high. [break][break] ‘Amazing.’ One look at the ruin up close and Raimell couldn’t take his eyes off of it - or rather, the gems hiding among the innocent looking plants. On a different day, maybe he’d have taken the time to appreciate the history that had been lost within this abandoned structure, but that would be a leisure trip for another time. Rhyme did come from here, as strange as that may be, but for him, the only real attachment he had to this place were the herbs that could be turned into food on the table and a bed to sleep in at night. [break][break] What exactly should he start with? Raimell scanned the surrounding area, picking out some herbs that stood out right away while a few others eluded him still, a list quickly forming in his head. They’ll have to be methodical about this… [attr="class","rainotes"] Rhyme |

"Nah, I'll pass." he fired back, grinning.
Soon their destination in sight; the ruin. It was the first place he remembered ever seeing, and yet, it seemed nostalgic for reasons beyond his waking in it. The crumbling walls were adorned with strange symbols that Rhyme felt he should know the meaning of, and yet such meanings eluded his mental reach. There were points where he felt he knew what structure the scattered stones must have formed.
...besides his identity, maybe he should look into what the ruin was. Maybe it could give a clue to himself, seeing as it felt it had a relation to him beyond just being a resting place.
He heard the herbalist beside him gape in awe at the ruin, although if he was a gambling man he'd say he was just more fascinated with the plants that they would be collecting--- and well, he knew not the specimen's names, but they were definitely here in droves, strangely colored and strangely shaped plants, some scentless and some with heady aroma. He could only wonder what each could be used for.
"So, what shall we start with? And describe the plants to me, I don't know their names." he said. "Oh, and... Raimell, do you know anything about this ruin?"

I think I'll let them get into the foraging first before Rhyme asks about learning first aid and whatnot.

[attr="class","raipost"] ‘I’ll point them out as we go. Just be careful handling the toxic ones and you’ll do just fine.’ Raimell said, already starting to unload his tools as he recounted the selection of herbs in his head one more time. They’ll start with something nice and easy, let Rhyme get used to working with plants, then move onto the trickier ones. Maybe he’d have Rhyme cover the basics while he dealt with the toxic plants; he didn’t want to accidentally poison his fledgling assistant on his first day at the job, after all…[break][break] ‘ …It must have belonged to a family of mages. Who else would want to live here? This whole area, it’s rich in Ethernano, isn’t it? And I can’t think of a better fertilizer that’d encourage such wild growth. Some of these herbs are rare for a reason…’ Raimell trailed off, noticing how Rhyme was fixated on the strange symbols all over the ruin’s walls. Right. What he delivered wasn’t the type of answer this man was seeking. Raimell cleared his throat, then gathered his thoughts and actually studied the walls.[break][break] ‘Well, it’s old, isn’t it?’ He contemplated aloud. ‘I’m no historian, but nature can’t just break down an entire building of this size in a decade, or two…it must’ve existed way before I was born, no, even longer than that, I mean, what kind of language is this?’ Raimell traced the symbols with his eyes, searching from his memory all the picture books he used to read as a kid and tried to see if the shapes reminded him of anything. He wasn’t very well read; the last time he touched anything other than a prescription was when he still had a home and parents who taught him the basics of medical practices. That was over a decade ago. Nowadays the only texts he didn’t have much trouble with were herb catalogues and surgery manuals, since he could easily guess the words he didn’t recognize from the diagrams and experience.[break][break] Raimell breathed a sigh, setting his small literary regret aside as he smiled apologetically at Rhyme. ‘Sorry. These symbols are beyond me. They could be foreign for all I know, but then, why? Do you know something about them?’[break][break] [attr="class","rainotes"] Rhyme |

Rhyme nodded seriously; it didn't cross his mind that some of these plants might even be poisonous, and as such he was glad for Raimell's word of caution. "Why would you want some of the toxic ones, Raimell?" he found himself asking. Wouldn't herbs meant to heal not be the dangerous sort, or was there something he didn't understand in the ways of alchemy? Most probably the latter, but he felt like inquiring.
"Ethernano?" He had heard the word thrown around in various contexts, from different people, and it seemed to be something that was the source of magic, as far as he could divine, and as much as he was told. He wondered if ethernano interacted with his mutations, if they flowed in his veins and thus allowed the paradox that was his body and mind. He wondered if it was ethernano that he felt, thickly in the air.
...ah, but that wasn't what he was asking, and that wasn't the main point of Raimell's answer, right? A family of mages... well, it seemed almost anybody was a mage or a mutant from his experience, and mutants were dreadfully rare, so that didn't... really dwindle down the possibilities that much. Then again, it could be a group with a specific aim, to have these plants and these structures in this spot where magic dances...
...before he could think of what else to say, his companion continued with his hypothesis. Well, it was a ruin, and it was ancient, but when he said those things, then it must be... really ancient. The language was indecipherable for Raimell, too. What did it mean when he thought these things were familiar... was he some sort of scholar that studied these ruins? After all, these were probably ruins before he was born... right?
"They just seem... kinda familiar." he admitted. "Although I have no idea what they mean, so I guess they aren't really that familiar." he nervously chuckled. He put the details at the back of his mind; there was no use wondering what these things were when both of them were clueless and there was no other source of information... and it was not what they had come here to do.
"So, shall we start?" Rhyme asked, awaiting his employer's instructions.
