However, their torsos are proportionally much larger, and their necks tend to be longer. Their hide also tends to much rougher, and their scales are also proportionally bigger. Apart from that, their varying scale coloration, extremely large wingspans and tails and lack of additional forelimbs apart from their wings makes them look identical to Drakes. Their size can vary a lot, but generally speaking they are about twice the size of an average human when standing on their hindlegs. Their contributes a lot to this measurement.[break][break] Behaviour: Much like Dryzards, Drakes are generally docile. They are omnivorous, but much more aggressive hunters than their smaller cousins. They have a similar level of intelligence, but show a lesser degree of empathy. They are naturally egotistical creatures, and tend to live solitary lives, not forming communities or broods.[break][break] Habitat: Several species of Drakes live in the southern plains. They tend to burrow themselves underground and build nests there. Some rare species of Drakes also live in the northern woodlands, at the border to the Zonia Mountains.[break][break] Abilities: - Drakes are reasonably strong for their size and can carry around three times their bodyweight.[break] - Drakes are known to come close to breaking the sound barrier when reaching top speeds, although it has never been reported that a Drake broke the speed of sound.[break] - Drakes also have an affinity towards wind- and fire-based magic, but some species are known to call upon lightning-, water- and earth-based magics. - A Drakes flame-breath is far superior to that of most other wyverns, and thought to be the most powerful. They are known to destroy armies with their breath alone.[break]

To their unique characteristics count their tails, that are often as long as they are tall, thick hind legs, short torsos, and their impressive wingspan, that can measure up to three times their torso-size. They are bipedal, their only forelimbs are their wings. Dryzards are usually smoother and more colorful when compared to their cousins. On average they are about half the size of the average human when standing on their hind legs.[break][break] Behaviour: Dryzards are omnivorous, and usually docile unless attacked or disturbed. They are also incredibly intelligent. While they have no capability for speech, telepathic magic has revealed that Dryzards can form coherent thoughts, communicate with humans to some degree and have an incredibly wide emotional spectrum.[break][break] Habitat: Dryzards are the most adaptable of all wyverns. Due to their size and generally unthreatening nature, they have managed to thrive not only in the wild, but also inside the city of Eos. Whilst generally staying away from populated areas, Dryzards are not an uncommon sight in and around the city. Their peaceful nature has allowed them to co-exist with humans for the most part. They know to build their nests in secluded areas that are hard-to-reach. They tend not to disturb humans. Although they are known to be food plagues from time to time, Humans are generally charitable towards Dryzards, and their unique place amongst Eos' infrastructure has made them a mascot for the city. [break][break] Abilities: - Dryzards are terrifyingly strong, and can carry up to ten times their body weight[break] - Dryzards can reach incredible airborne speeds of half the speed of sound in optimal conditions.[break] - Most species of Dryzards have an affinity towards wind- or fire-based magic.[break] - All Dryzard species have the natural ability to consume and breath fire.

X292 The Invention of the Lacrima
This is named the year in which the Lacrima was first taken to the royal court of Crocus by the genius inventor Grenouire Ribáldo Lacrím. The documents of Lacrím are unclear on which day he actually produced the first successful Lacrima, but it is assumed that some two years prior to the Advent of Eos he was already finished. It is also noted that he never intended it to become such an impactful invention, and his attempts to sell it to the royal court of Eos were initially based on a lack of funds for his other research.[break][break][break]
X305 - X320 The Industrial Revolution It took the mages of the royal court many years to realize the full potential of the Lacrima. But once they did, and the item began getting mass produced, it quickly sparked a massive revolution in Eos. Not only for the benefit of the royal court. But it opened new jobs for the population, mining the materials necessary to create Lacrima, working in the process of purifying the material, and transporting it into and out of Eos. The city's economy grew exponentially, and it didn't take long until trade deals with other kingdoms began.[break][break][break]
X320 - X370 The Great Serran Migration
The Great Serran Migration kicked off with the movement of the people of the kingdom of Berkel into Eos, an until then rivaling kingdom in Valor that simply failed to keep up with the economic progress Eos created. In the following years even people from outside the province, from kingdoms and villages from all across Serra took on pilgrimage to Eos, giving the namesake for this historical event. This massive influx in population and the desperate need for proper infrastructure and order in the growing kingdom resulted in the Border Security Act of X371, which decreed that the kingdom of Crocus, now the kingdom of Eos, would not be taking in any more migrants.[break][break][break]
X371-440 Era of Monarchial Oppression
To ensure the safety of Eos' borders and the stability of the kingdom the monarchy enacted the The Border Security Act. An emergency decree that prevented migrants from coming into Eos and allowed Eos' army to use force for trespassers into the kingdom. For the following decade Eos was closed off to the rest of Serra to allow the kingdom to expand its territory and habitable space to deal with issues of overpopulation. An unwelcome addendum to the Border Security Act was the Public Safety Clause. A stipulation that forbade public use and research of magic that was unsanctioned by the royal court. This act was allegedly passed in response to the increasing number of accidents, murders and destruction in property caused by the influx of mages into Eos, but was ultimately used to seize power from the people and place it in the hands of nobility. Especially affected were mutants, who were persecuted by the monarchy and often times executed or imprisoned for their supposed unlawful use of magic.[break][break][break]
X440 - X445 Revolution of Eos
The political tensions between the people of Eos and the monarchy rose in the years following the Border Security Act. Historians suggest that while the actual revolution started in X440, the building blocks were set throughout the Era of Monarchial Oppression by writers and philosophers who ultimately inspired the main leader, Jeremiah Grimm, to turn against the royal court with violence. The revolution of Eos lasted five years. From the time in which the military command was toppled and violently decimated by revolutionary mages, to the final year that ended with Jeremiah Grimm's imprisonment by the Etherim Council.[break][break][break]
X444 - The Etherium Conclave
X444 is known as the first year of the Council's existence. It was held by elected officials from every part of Eos to nominate the Council's first Arbiter, Jericho Strauss. He was an important leader in the revolution and a former friend of Jeremiah Grimm from whom the idea for an elected Council of capable mages originated. He headed the Etherium Conclave and proposed many of the rules that Eos still follows today during this Conclave. Following the creation of the Council, Eos' borders were opened again, and the news of the first free kingdom spread like a wildfire throughout Serra, causing a renewed influx of people from all across Serra.[break][break][break]
X445 - Battle At The Edge
Only a year after the Etherium Conclave was held, Jeremiah Grimm continued his actions against the city of Eos by murdering the remaining members of the last royal family in an attempt to show that oppression would not be over until monarchy everywhere was abolished. He was branded a terrorist by the Council and was to be arrested and persecuted without violence. However, before the arrest could take place Grimm and the remainder of his followers tried to flee the city. Before they could do so they were confronted Jericho Strauss and the Council's forces. The ensuing battle claimed a large part of Eos' southern border. A region now known as Kingdom's Edge.

The architecture of Eos is ever-changing. The original vision of the city, conceived and designed by the earth mage Efri Kaplan, still forms the basic framework of most the additions that have happened since the expansion of the kingdom. Layers of verticality stabilized through precise shaping of the earth is still the most notable feature that Eos has to offer. Straight, thin bridges connect tightly packed spires and tall buildings that poke through multiple levels of the perforated structure of the city. While Era is the best example of this idea, the other districts that were created almost from the ground up also reflect this identity. The city seems ever expanding into the skies and through the ground as more and more layers of verticality are added above and below to make room for the ever-increasing population.[break][break][break]
Transportation
Transportation through Eos can be incredibly tricky due to its labyrinthian structure. Due to the tightly packed structure and efficient use of space for footpaths, ground-based vehicles were never an idea worth following through with in Eos, and as such nothing aside from wagons uses wheels to get around the city. Rickshaws and carriages function as taxis and have designated runways to move anyone who can afford to spend a few coins through the city. More popular than that, however, are the airships. Powered by Lacrima instilled with air magic, these vehicles make use of the gaps in architecture to move through the city. Larger airships move further distances and even larger ones move from district to district in very little time. They are expensive to maintain, however, and too large for personal use, leading to them becoming public property. Since the creation of the first Council, affordable and efficient public transportation has been a huge priority for the elected officials, and it was a massive success. Airships require extensive training to pilot, however, and have become a popular craft to study for people who don't wish to get a degree in an advanced field in a university.[break][break][break]
Education & Labour
Magic makes the world go 'round. That is a basic principle of how Eos works. To become successful you must be able to make a profit off magic. This doesn't necessarily require a gifted mage, but more often than not people making a lot of money or those in high positions are gifted and powerful mages in their own right. However, the universal applications of the Lacrima have eliminated the need to learn magic to make a decent or even good life for yourself in Eos. The average citizen of Eos, whether poor or wealthy, often has little to no magical talents, and could barely summon a gust of wind strong enough to put out a candle. However, magic is most certainly a talent fostered in the academic infrastructure of Eos, and glorified by the national sport of the Magic Games, and even required to become part of the Council and make a political career for yourself. Apart from that, many people create businesses and offer services and trades they learn during their youth. Whether they be prestigious bankers or simple tailors, the large majority of Eos manages to make a living for themselves. Those that fail to do so usually live off of Council assistance and are forced to moved to Fersen, where housing is cheap and the quality of life generally takes a nosedive when compared to the rest of Eos.[break][break][break]
Music & Arts
Music and liberal arts are naturally a part of society, and there are countless great composers, lyricists, writers and painters that have managed to gain notoriety and celebrity status within the city. Many of the most successful ones even manage to break into high society and become some of the wealthiest people in Eos. The current range of arts is similar to what the romantic period of our world had to offer back then. Violins, pianos, big ensembles and operas mark the musical landscape of Eos. Rock n' Roll or even Blues and Jazz are nowhere to be found. The guitar hasn't been invented yet, and the piano is the main instrument of choice for those seeking to write popular music. Popular works of literature usually focus on the human rather than the fantastical, and seek to dramatize the world we live in. Most if not all of it has political undertones, and painters depict grandiose images of nature and the sublime.[break][break][break]
Religion
Religion has been of little relevance to the people of Eos. There are no temples or pantheons to speak of, as magic is the god of humans. It is a force with which most anything can be done, and as such, anything fantastical has been able to be explained away by magic since time immemorial. However, it is common belief that there are forces greater than what is tangible. The existence of magic almost necessitates the belief in a higher entity, or even entities that have gifted this force to people. But while people don't rally together to pray to whatever god might be above, even the most rational thinkers subscribe to some degree of superstition and believe in supernatural occurrences, circumstances and the very real possibility of flying unicorns. Eos is spiritual, and the study of magic also necessitates some degree of meditation over this mysterious force. This leads many of the most gifted mages to lead clerical lives, subjecting themselves to the existence of whatever greater things might be out there. But overall, there are no unifying beliefs for the people of Eos; there is no equivalent of the Bible, and there is no one god to pray to.

Without his genius Eos might not exist and the world would likely look vastly different. He is a household name and famous for his contributions to the world. Much of his private life has been made public and he is a central figure in Serran history. He went missing in X312. Many say that he committed suicide over the Lacrima being made public, as he never intended for the invention to make it past the royal court.[break][break][break]
Gwenael Iuvé
Born in X321, she founded the academy of Eos in X361 as a means to publicize the knowledge and practice of magic, to inform and teach the growing population responsible use of magic. She was among those who believed in a capable and informed public that could use magic. She was a great scholar who wrote many books on many fields of magic, science and history. It is an undisputed fact that she was ahead of her time. She was arrested and executed by the monarchy for treason and illegal practice of magic in X375.[break][break][break]
Efri Kaplan
Born in X332, this world class architect and gifted earth mage was among the first to envision the city's future after the Great Serran Migration. She oversaw and helped build much of what Eos built today. She aided in the creation of the Watcher's Spire personally. Upon her untimely death from an illness in X388, her legacy kept her students continuing her work. About a decade after her death, it was found that she had left behind blueprints for an elaborate sewage system that was immediately installed and fixed the city's growing waste problem, immortalizing her name in historical record.[break][break][break]
Lilinette Preuve
Born in X398, she is known as the "Last Queen of Eos", Lilinette Preuve was one of the few nobles that welcomed the coming of the new era. Recognizing the importance of Jeremiah Grimm's ideas, she betrayed the royal family to topple it, and her efforts in destabilizing the royal court were key to the victory of the revolutionaries. She was killed by Jeremiah Grimm in X445 despite her aid in toppling the monarchy. Hailed as a hero after her death, she is an important figure in Eos, and there exists something of a personality cult around her.[break][break][break]
Jeremiah Grimm
Born in X408, he was amongst the first to recognize the injustice within the monarchic tyranny and privatization of magic. He protested against only the rich being able to study and perform the arcane arts, and he was the figurehead of the revolution of X440. Without him, the Etherium Council would have likely never been installed and the royal family never usurped. However, he rejected the Council's authority and in X445 he fought with the the first generation of the Council and lost. He was captured alive and arrested for his continuous violent and unjust uprising against the people of Eos that concluded with a series of murders against the remaining nobility, and the execution of the former Queen of Eos. He attempted to escape from prison in X480 but failed. He died in prison in X499 at the age of 91.[break][break][break]
Jericho Strauss
Born in X414, he was at the forefront of the revolution of X440. Upon toppling the monarchy, it was his idea to instate an elected Magic Council that would govern magic fairly and distribute knowledge of it to the masses. He and his followers were the first to create the council building on top of the Watcher's Spire. He was voted in as the first Arbiter of Eos. It is said that he was a shining beacon of hope for the future, and an incorruptible force for good. He peacefully died of old age in X491.[break][break][break]

A vast city-state brimming with magic users. Home to various noble houses, guilds, groups and peoples. It is known as the largest city in the world: The circular structure and impressive architecture houses a growing population of over twenty million people. People who come from all walks of life flock to the so-called "City of Fortune" that promises wealth, security and stability in a world that harbors unknown threats and an uncertain future.[break][break]
Eos used to be nothing but a fairly small kingdom ruled by nobility and led by monarchs. Around 300 years ago, the creation of the Lacrima sparked an industrial revolution that quickly swept the continent, causing an event known as "The Great Serran Migration". During this industrial revolution, surrounding Serran peoples quickly made their way to Eos in search of fortune, trying to capitalize on the changes the Lacrima brought unto the world. The ability for anyone to utilize magic without needing to know anything about magic. Surrounding kingdoms and villages mass migrated to the city, and even rivaling kingdoms in other provinces felt a significant decline in their own population. 200 years after the fact, nearly the entire habitable province of Valor was assimilated into Eos's infrastructure, to the point where the entire kingdom of Eos was but one city-state.[break][break]
While magic has been a topic of debate since the inception of societies, in Eos it quickly became a problem, as the growing city and its monarchs had no way of ensuring the stability of its infrastructure or the safety of its citizens with the rapidly growing population and commercialization of magic. The monarchy was ultimately abolished during the "Revolution of Eos" that started in X440, in which the nobility and royal family were usurped in response to the oppression of non-nobiles and attempted privatization of magic for the profit of the monarchy. However, after the first Etherium Conclave was held, in which the future of Eos was decided and the privatization of knowledge was ended, the first Etherium Council was founded after a series of elections which marked the end of the monarchial oppression. The revolution ultimately ended in X445 after the Battle At The Edge, in which the remaining and still revolting forces of the revolution fought with the first generation of the Council and lost.[break][break]
The Council was an assembly of the most gifted and knowledgeable mages that oversaw the city's further construction and its usage of magic, not as a tool of oppression but as a means for prosperity. While laws were put in place that forbade the use of magic against other people, and the practice of some magics entirely, knowledge of magic also became public, and its usage was taught in schools and universities across Eos. The Knights of the Council were instated as the executive branch of the city that carried out punishment for crimes of magic. It didn't take long for the Council to become a democratic process in which the people were able to vote for the representatives that took care of the city.[break][break]
While nowadays the city enjoys a stable economy and vibrant culture, magic is far from being free, and there are several people that dislike the way the Magic Council rules with impunity. Eos' history is still young and its culture is ever-changing and adapting to the city's growth. Political tensions run high all year with politics being inevitably tied to the usage of arcane arts. The magic council is in its third generation, and it is widely held knowledge that corruption has already spread like a virus throughout the city. [break][break]
But dangers and wonder don't just come from within the city, Serra is home to countless secrets. Whether it be places affected by magic, ancient artifacts rotting away in ruins or undiscovered nature to be explored, there is no shortage of adventure outside of the city. Many mages seek the power to tackle these adventures head on.[break][break]

Ethernano is an extremely malleable particle of energy that exists in abundance in this world. It permeates every living and non-living thing in the world and affects the world in mysterious, sometimes curious ways. It is infinitesmally small, but it forms the basis of the way the world works and is understood today. It can't be seen, tasted, heard or even felt, but it is the foundation of all life, knowledge and power that exists.[break][break][break]
Aether
Aether is what a concetration of Ethernano is called. A cluster, if you will. It is the "shape" Ethernano takes as a source of usable energy. Different from Ethernano, Aether, while usually invisible and untraceable in its natural state can take on color, shape and be felt by living creatures depending on the environment or the situation it is observed in. There is no particular emotional association living creatures make with Aether, it doesn't feel particularly good or bad without an environment to refract from or something that is acting upon it. Aether in an area of high naturality, say a spring break might feel good, while Aether from a poisonous swamp might feel putrid and noxious.[break][break][break]
Etherious
Not commonly used in everyday language, this adjective is used to describe a state in which objects, living creatures or any kind of matter or energy is affected by Aether in a significant way. It is most often found among botanists or biologists to describe an environment where Aether has observable effects on organisms. Anything can become Etherious. Something can be more Etherious than something else. As Aether is the most malleable energy known to the world, things that are Etherious are naturally as diverse and changeable as the energy itself.[break][break][break]
Attuned
To be attuned is to be aware of and be able to sense the Aether in your environment. Some creatures are attuned from birth, some become attuned through practice. Some scholars say there are plants that are attuned and prefer to grow towards sources of Aether. Most humans are attuned to some degree. It is a skill that can simply be practiced, usually by meditation. The more attuned someone is, the easier it is for them to sense Aether. Those who are highly attuned can even discern the nature of the Aether, how it is being manipulated, in what quantities and in what relationship it stands to its surroundings.[break][break][break]
Magic
What exactly magic is exactly is still a debated topic, even amongst scholars. The most commonly agreed upon definition is, that it is "the process of manipulating Aether from its raw, neutral state into a physical form or force." Magic is the unifying term for anything that requires Aether as its primary source of energy to function; in other words, the sole limitation imposed upon magic is that it requires Aether. Living creatures can have varying degrees of affinity towards different kinds of ways ethernano can be manipulated, but all living creatures have the innate potential to manipulate Aether to some degree. Spells
Spells are defined as "Applied Magic.". So anytime a mage actively manipulates Aether to achieve some sort of end, then that can be defined as a Spell. There is no singular structure or defined way spells manifest, but there are generally a couple signifiers they all share. All Spells must be channeled through some sort of medium. Most commonly this is either speech, some kind of movement pattern or written runes. Spells are also singular, linear effects that can't be changed once cast. Not all mages use Spells to cast magic however. They are most commonly associated with Arcanists. Invokers typically have no use or understanding of how to cast Spells. Not just due to their complex nature, but also due to the fact that Invokers use their existence as a medium and can channel powerful magic without the need of an external medium.[break][break][break]
Runes
The actual language of magic. Common Serran is not ideal for channeling Aether, although it is certainly possible. For this reason, Runic was invented. It is a typically written, but sometimes spoken language that has been developed over centuries of study. It has evolved to the point where any kind of seal or enchantment is most certainly written in Runic. Most mages know at least some amount of Runic. Scholars and highly skilled mages are typically well-versed and can read and write it quite fluently. Some of the most invested people can even speak it, and it is known to channel incredibly powerful effects when spoken.[break][break][break]
Ars Magica
Ars Magica is Old Serran that can roughly be translated as "The One Magic". It is a metaphysical concept that, although never proven to exist, is an idea that has been discussed throughout history and is still debated today. Ars Magica describes the thought of the essence of Aether, the root of this mysterious force that exists in the world. The combination of everything that exists and can exist within the confines of magic. A unifying kind of magic that would enable humans to wield Aether without restriction. The vast majority of Academia treats Ars Magica as nothing but a thought experiment, but there is small subset of people that strongly believe Ars Magica to be real and to be achievable. Etherium
Aether can change the composition of natural minerals. When it does this, the resulting mineral is known as Etherium. It is fairly brittle on its own, but can be combined with less etherious minerals to grant them incredibly high quality and magical potential. It is usually mined in the Zonia mountains and boasts a high retail value. Pure Etherium is one of the most valuable minerals known to man. While it is not quite as pricey as gold or silver due its abundance, it is used in countless industries and manufacturing processes. Artificers most commonly use this ore to craft their equipment and infuse Aether into their Artifacts. It is also the basis of the Lacrima.[break][break][break]
Magitech
Magitech is the common term for industrialized magic. Most commonly, magitech refers to the architectural and infrastructural marvels of Eos; in particular, the sewage system found in Byzel, the waterways of Hargeon and the airships flying all throughout the city. The basis of all magitech is an item known as the Lacrima but despite the Lacrima being a fairly advanced item that has turned Eos into the city of fortune and modernity, magic has never made any form of technology beyond ones that provide basic comforts necessary. Computers, phones or any type of electronics don't exist. Neither do cars or sophisticated mechanical tools. People still rely on physical mediums, and although magic can enable long distance communication, those kinds of services require too many resources to be commonly available. That said, Eos is a prosperous city where even the poorest households can have running water and keep the lights on at night.[break][break][break]

Changing your race is impossible, and being a hybrid between two races is not allowed. Being part of one race should influence your character according to that Race's lore. Only two characters can take on canon positions. It is encouraged to limit yourself to certain characters and respect that your entire cast cannot hold important positions.[break][break] 2.07 All characters start out with one class that each come with a starting kit that provides a basic foundation for your character's abilities. [break][break] 2.08 Additional gold a character makes can not be given to another character directly. All gold is locked to the account it was earned by and can only be made by posting or through quests.[break][break] 2.09 On Power Levels: Generally speaking, the average mage is at house-buster level. Magic is inherently destructive, and most characters will be good at magic. Physically speaking, all characters can be rp'd as though they have a similar level of physical ability as your average shounen character. Meaning they are abnormally durable, strong and fast. This is not to say they are superhuman by default, but the real laws of physics don't apply. Falling out of a third story window won't immediately result in broken bones, lifting that big boulder might just be possible, and jumping from rooftop to rooftop is totally possible. Characters do quests to earn gold (G) and other rewards. They involve rping to achieve a certain goal, which, once achieved, enables the character to apply the completed thread and earn the rewards given in the original Quest post. All of these Quests and their respective posts can be found in the Quest Board.[break][break] 3.02 While some Quests will be provided by staff, members are encouraged to create their own quests and apply them in the Quest Creation Section. Members are free to make any series of events they wish to happen to their character into a quest to earn more gold, but rewards will always be decided by staff.[break][break] 3.03 Quests will always have requirements that characters must fulfill to take them. These requirements may range from a character being of a certain rank, being in a certain faction, requiring a certain number of characters or requiring certain abilities. Magic is applied separately from your character, using the Magic Application and posted in the Magic Application sub-board. Please label your app as "Character first last - character class". It can applied before, simultaneously or together with your character. Upon approval, your magic thread will be attached to your character thread. This means that at latest upon approval you should have a character thread up![break][break] 4.02 Magic is this world's only supernatural concept. Spells exist to utilize a class' unique way of manipulating Aether in creative ways that build on the principle of the magic.
